Want to look younger ?  Along with oral surgery, Dr. Nelson is pleased to offer Facial Enhancement.  Dr. Nelson has received advanced training to address many of your facial aesthetic concerns.

There are two particularly important substances — collagen and hyaluronic acid — that play important roles in keeping facial skin looking smooth and supple. Collagen is a protein that provides skin with structural support, while hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar found in all living cells that attracts and binds water, hydrating the skin and giving it volume.

As the skin ages and is exposed to environmental pollutants and ultraviolet rays, collagen and hyaluronic acid in the skin diminish, the skin loses structure and volume, and unwelcome lines and wrinkles appear, like those “parentheses” lines around your nose and mouth.

Other lines, like glabellar lines (the vertical frown lines between the eyebrows which often look like the number “11″), are formed by repeated and involuntary contraction of the muscles between the eyebrows. As the skin becomes less elastic, excessive contraction of these muscles may cause visible, deep wrinkles between the eyebrows to form, even when the face is relaxed.

The following treatments are available:

facial aesthetics

BOTOX®

BOTOX® has clinical use as an adjunct in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and bruxism cases, even more so for patients with chronic TMJ and facial pain. BOTOX is a muscle relaxer and when given in typically half the dosage used for facial wrinkle smoothing treatment, it can greatly reduce the intensity of the muscle contractions that contribute to TMJ and facial pain and give the patient significant relief.

BOTOX® has also been used in other areas of dentistry including retraining muscles during orthodontic therapy. BOTOX® and dermal fillers are as essential to aesthetic dentistry cases as porcelain veneers and composite resins.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers restore volume and fullness to skin. Dermal fillers work to smooth lines, to eliminate wrinkles, to enhance or sculpt lips, enhance shallow contours, soften facial creases, and to improve the appearance of recessed scars. Dermal fillers have been called “liquid facelifts” because they offer many of the benefits of a surgical facelift without the downtime. Although they can’t help with excess sagging skin, these soft tissue fillers can add more volume and provide immediate results at a lower cost than surgery. These treatment aren’t permanent, however, and they must be repeated and maintained. Some dermal fillers are used in conjunction with other skin rejuvenation treatments such as injections of PRP Platelet Rich Plasma  and botulinum toxin. Dr. Nelson will assess your needs and recommend one or a combination of treatments to achieve your desired results.

The cosmetic dental industry is growing at an explosive rate, and dermal fillers are becoming a major player in patient aesthetics.
